Niagara Wedding Photographer
If you’re looking for a Niagara wedding photographer with a documentary approach and an editorial eye, we photograph celebrations across Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls and the surrounding wine country. We’re Alexandra and Vladimir Nadtochiy, a Toronto-based husband-and-wife photography and videography team. We have been photographing weddings together since 2009.
Our approach is simple: let the wedding feel like a wedding. We document the people, atmosphere and unscripted moments as they happen. We bring in thoughtful direction when portraits, light or timing benefit from it. The result is a gallery that feels polished without turning the day into a production.
Wedding Photography in Niagara That Still Feels Like Your Day
Niagara has a very different rhythm from a downtown wedding. Vineyards, orchards, private estates and the Lake Ontario shoreline create room for a celebration to breathe. For couples planning from Toronto, it can feel like a destination wedding. At the same time, the region is close enough to keep the weekend practical for family and friends.
That atmosphere fits the way we photograph. We pay attention to the setting, but the venue never becomes more important than the people in it. We want the photographs to hold onto the landscape, design and light. At the same time, the story should remain about the reactions, relationships and small moments that made the day yours.
Documentary at Heart, Editorial When It Matters
Most of a wedding day does not need to be staged. During getting ready, the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and the reception, we work quietly and watch for what is actually happening. We photograph the conversations, movement, family interactions and expressions that cannot be recreated later.
For portraits, we become more involved. We help with light, composition and movement and give enough direction to make the photographs feel intentional. The goal is not rigid posing. It is to create a few beautifully constructed images while keeping the experience relaxed and recognizable as you.
A Real Martin Estates Wedding in Niagara
The photographs throughout this page come from Samantha and Ryan’s wedding at Martin Estates in Niagara. Their weekend also included a rehearsal dinner at The Good Earth Food & Wine Co. This gave us a second side of the region: vineyards, open countryside and a relaxed evening before the wedding day.
At Martin Estates, the wedding moved from getting ready in the farmhouse to an emotional first look, an outdoor ceremony, cocktails on the lawn, a long-table dinner, sunset portraits and a nighttime reception. It is exactly the kind of wedding we enjoy documenting because the day had a clear visual identity without ever feeling over-produced.

First Look and Couple Portraits
A first look can create a quiet moment together before the ceremony and give the timeline more flexibility later in the day. We keep it simple: enough direction to find good light and a clean setting, then space for the reaction to happen naturally.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies in Niagara
Outdoor ceremonies are one of Niagara’s strengths. The region offers open lawns, vineyards, orchards and estate properties where the landscape can become part of the ceremony without needing much additional decoration.
From a photography perspective, the biggest advantage is space. We can work from different angles without becoming part of the ceremony itself. That lets us photograph the couple and guest reactions at the same time. We can also use the surroundings for intimate photographs and wider images that show where the wedding actually happened.
After the Ceremony
Once the ceremony is over, we keep portraits efficient and let the day continue. A few minutes of direction can be enough to create polished photographs before everyone moves into cocktail hour and dinner.
From Cocktail Hour to a Long-Table Dinner
We recommend leaving some room in a Niagara timeline because much of the story happens between the formal parts of the day. Cocktail hour, conversations before dinner and guests moving through the property all matter. The changing evening light can also produce some of the most personal photographs in the final gallery.
Samantha and Ryan’s reception unfolded outdoors, with a long family-style table set beside the orchard. We photographed the design and place settings. We also stayed focused on the people using the space: guests arriving, reactions during speeches and the couple at the table. As the sun went down, the property itself became part of the story.
Golden Hour Wedding Portraits in Niagara
We do not believe couples need to disappear from their own wedding for an hour-long portrait session. When the timeline allows, we prefer a short, focused window when the light is at its best. In Niagara, that is often enough to create portraits that feel completely different from the rest of the day.
At Martin Estates, we stepped away briefly as the sun dropped across the lawn. The light was soft, the reception was already underway, and the portraits felt more like a pause together than a formal photo session.
Nighttime Reception Photography
When daylight disappears, we do not stop treating the wedding as a documentary story. The visual language simply changes. Ambient light, flash, movement and black-and-white photographs become part of the coverage, while the focus remains on the energy of the room and the people in it.
Niagara Wedding Photography and Videography
As a Niagara wedding photographer and videography team, we approach still images and film as two parts of the same story.
We offer wedding photography and videography together for couples who want still photographs and film to feel like parts of the same story. We work as one team. That lets us coordinate coverage without turning important moments into a competition between separate crews.
The film below was created at a farm-and-barn wedding outside Niagara, but we are including it because the setting and atmosphere are close to the kind of celebrations we photograph in Niagara wine country: open landscapes, a relaxed rural setting and a wedding day built around people rather than production.

Planning a Wedding in Niagara
Niagara gives couples a wide range of settings within a relatively compact region. Options include wineries, private estates, orchards, historic properties, restaurants and destination-style venues. The right choice depends on more than how a venue looks in photographs. Guest count, weather backup, privacy, accommodation and ceremony options can all affect the day.
We put together a separate guide to 26 wedding venues across Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls, Lincoln, Beamsville, Vineland, Jordan and the surrounding area. If you are still choosing a location, it is a useful place to start.

Planning Your Niagara Wedding From Toronto
Choosing a Niagara wedding photographer from Toronto does not mean your coverage has to feel like a destination assignment. We are based in Toronto and regularly travel for weddings throughout Ontario. For Niagara celebrations, we plan the locations, travel and timing as part of the wedding day from the beginning.
If getting ready, the ceremony and the reception happen at different properties, we account for that movement before the wedding day. We also look at light and timing in advance.
A first look can create more flexibility earlier in the day. A short evening portrait window can also take advantage of Niagara’s open landscapes without pulling you away from dinner or your guests for long.
The goal is not to build the wedding around photography. It is to make photography fit the wedding intelligently.
What It’s Like to Work With Us
You work with us directly. We are a husband-and-wife team and have been photographing weddings together since 2009. On the wedding day, our approach is calm and unobtrusive: we help when help is useful, give clear direction when a portrait needs it and step back when the moment belongs to you and your guests.
We care about beautiful portraits, but a complete wedding gallery should be much more than portraits. It should include the people you invited and the atmosphere you created. It should also preserve the parts of the day you saw and the parts you missed. Years later, the smallest documentary photographs are often the ones that become unexpectedly important.
Frequently Asked Questions About Niagara Wedding Photography
Do you photograph weddings throughout the Niagara Region?
Yes. We are available for weddings throughout Niagara, including Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls, Lincoln, Beamsville, Vineland, Jordan and the surrounding wine country.
Are you based in Niagara?
We are based in Toronto and travel throughout Ontario for weddings. Niagara is a regular destination for us and close enough that we can plan coverage, scouting and travel as part of the wedding-day logistics.
What is your wedding photography style?
Our foundation is documentary photography: real moments, reactions and relationships without constantly directing what happens. For portraits, we bring in a more editorial approach and guide you when needed.
Do you offer both photography and videography in Niagara?
Yes. Photography and videography can be booked for the same wedding. We coordinate the coverage so both mediums work together and the day still feels relaxed.
Can you photograph a rehearsal dinner or a full wedding weekend?
Yes. Samantha and Ryan’s Niagara coverage included their rehearsal dinner at The Good Earth Food & Wine Co. before the wedding at Martin Estates. Coverage can be built around the events you are actually planning.
How do we choose a Niagara wedding photographer?
Start by looking at complete wedding stories, not only portfolio highlights. A Niagara wedding photographer should be able to work consistently through changing light, outdoor ceremonies, family photographs, candid moments and the reception. The photographs should also feel like one coherent story from the beginning of the day to the end.
Can we see full Niagara wedding stories before booking?
Yes. You can view our Martin Estates wedding and our Ironwood Cider House wedding on the blog, and we can share additional complete galleries during a consultation.
