Where the Story Began

There is something especially meaningful about returning to a place that holds so many memories — and experiencing it in a completely new chapter of life.

For Matt, that place is St. Andrew’s College.

He spent his school years here, and coming back with Rachel for their engagement session gave the afternoon a personal connection that went far beyond simply choosing a beautiful location. As we walked through the grounds, Matt shared stories and memories from his time at the school, while Rachel got to experience a place that had been such an important part of his life.

We loved that contrast: familiar for Matt, new for Rachel, and now connected to a completely different moment in their lives together.

The grounds of St. Andrew’s gave us an incredible setting for the afternoon. The stone architecture, quiet courtyards, long pathways and summer greenery created a beautiful sense of place without ever taking attention away from Rachel and Matt themselves.

Later, we crossed the street to St. Anne’s School, where the atmosphere shifted again. The architecture felt lighter and more romantic, giving us another beautiful setting while keeping the session relaxed and unhurried.

But what we will remember most from the day is simply Rachel and Matt together.

They have the kind of connection that never needs to be manufactured for the camera. There is an ease between them — the way they look at each other, the way one makes the other laugh, and the little moments that happen naturally in between photographs.

It made our job wonderfully simple.

Some of our favourite frames from the session are the quiet ones: walking together through the grounds, talking between photographs, and laughing when something did not quite go according to plan. Then there are the portraits that feel almost cinematic — Rachel and Matt surrounded by the architecture and history of a place that has meant so much to Matt for years.

That balance felt very much like them: elegant without being formal, romantic without trying too hard, and full of genuine warmth.

Engagement sessions are often described as a rehearsal for the wedding day, but we have never really thought of them that way. They are their own chapter. A few hours when there is nowhere else to be, no timeline to follow and no guests waiting for the next part of the evening. Just two people, at this particular moment in their lives, before everything that comes next.

And for Rachel and Matt, there is a lot to look forward to.

Their wedding next summer is being planned together with KaLy and Co Events, and after spending this afternoon with them, we are even more excited to see the celebration take shape.

Rachel and Matt, thank you for bringing us somewhere that holds so many memories for Matt, and for letting us be part of adding a new one to the story.

We loved this afternoon with you.

And we cannot wait for the next chapter.
