Welcoming a newborn into the world is one of the most precious chapters in a family’s story, and I feel so honored every time I’m invited to capture it. Julia and Liam’s in-home newborn session with little Theodore was a beautiful reminder of why these moments matter so much.
As a Toronto newborn photographer, I always say that newborn sessions hold a very special place in my heart. They can be delicate and require extra time, but they are also some of the sweetest, most meaningful sessions I ever photograph. I don’t believe in heavily posing babies — the most natural and powerful images happen when parents simply hold their baby close, just as they are in everyday life.
One of the most beautiful parts of this session was that it took place right in Julia and Liam’s home. An in-home session allows the family to feel comfortable and relaxed, and it keeps the baby calm in their own familiar space.
Their Toronto home was filled with light, soft colors, and a sense of calm, which made every photo even more special. From the cozy nursery with its little knitted details to the warm embraces by the window and in the garden, the photos reflect not just Theodore’s tiny features, but the love and atmosphere of the home where his story begins.
We started the session with simple everyday moments — feeding, cuddling, and holding Theodore. I love capturing parents in these quiet, natural interactions. Julia’s tender embrace and Liam’s calm presence as he held his son made every photograph deeply personal.
Later, we stepped outside into their backyard garden for a few portraits surrounded by greenery. The combination of indoor and outdoor images gave their gallery both intimacy and freshness, highlighting different facets of family life in Toronto.
For me as a Toronto family photographer, the magic is in the details: tiny hands resting on mom’s chest, dad’s kiss on mom’s forehead, and the way their home felt during those first weeks together. These little details are what make the memories timeless.
I usually recommend photographing newborns before they reach two or three weeks of age — they’re sleepier, smaller, and it’s easier to capture those dreamy early days. But even beyond that period, newborn sessions can be just as magical. Babies change so quickly that any time you choose to capture them will preserve a fleeting chapter you’ll never get back.
Looking back, Julia and Liam will not only remember how tiny Theodore once was, but also the love and tenderness that filled their home during those early weeks.
And if your home doesn’t have the right lighting conditions, don’t worry — we can help you choose a studio with natural light close to your neighborhood, so that you don’t have to travel far.

Julia and Liam’s session with baby Theodore is a wonderful reminder of how special in-home newborn photography can be. These images carry not only the beauty of new life, but also the emotion of those first days together as a family.
If you are looking for a Toronto newborn photographer or a Toronto family photographer, I would love to help you capture your own story.
